Tech giants are battling it out to supply the global internet – here’s why that’s a problem

The dream of a connected world is constantly being driven toward reality, but the high cost of entry remains.

Even as tech giants battle for the last-mile of internet connectivity, with the Google Loon project, Facebook’s Aquila Drone or even Tesla’s plan to blanket the earth with satellite internet, the cost of doing business remains painfully high.

While they provide a meaningful step in connecting populations, they target high and middle income individuals, leaving the vast majority of the world exactly where they were before…unconnected.
