OLPC one decade later

I was reminded of another attempt to connect the unconnected while reading an article in The Verge yesterday about the UN lauded OLPC “hundred dollar laptop” designed by Nicholas Negroponte of MIT Labs more than 10 years ago.

The story was thought provoking, highlighting the challenge of providing technology and connectivity to the more than 4 billion people who do not have access to the internet.

Despite setbacks (and truly in spite of them) Nicholas’ story highlights the importance of continuing to invest in this space, the benefits that come as we level the playing field, and the responsibility that we have to develop technology that–in fact–rises to the task we’ve set it against.
